Schoolboy raises £1,000 for Oldham neonatal unit

A Middleton schoolboy has raised £1,000 for the Oldham neonatal unit which cared for him when he was born.

Eight-year-old Nathaniel Jacobs, of Alkrington, held a car wash on Sunday (30 September), cleaning around 100 cars to raise as much as possible for the unit to help more babies like himself.

Just hours old, Nathaniel was transferred to Oldham neonatal from North Manchester Hospital after suffering prolonged seizures and Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy, a dangerous condition that requires immediate medical intervention.

Nathaniel was joined by several schoolfriends and his cousin, William, plus parents and other family members.

His mum, Joanne, said: “He loved every minute; it was great fun. We’ve been laughing this morning about different things happened through the day.

“A Tesla turned up, which is his favourite car, he was over the moon and he pushed it right to the front of the queue to start cleaning it.

“The guy had seen our post so thought he would come around to show his support, which was so kind of him, Nathaniel had thought we had arranged it but I don’t know anyone with a Tesla.

“We’re so proud of him.”
