Butchers donate meat to Feeding Rochdale Homeless

Date published: 25 September 2018

A butchers’ shop has donated meat worth almost £100 to Feeding Rochdale Homeless at Champness Hall.

Cryers Butchers in Littleborough held a contest on Friday (21 September) to eat a 32oz burger in the fastest time at the Green Door Restaurant, which allowed them to donate the generous amount.

Stuart Dyke was the first to finish within 14 minutes, winning a £50 voucher to spend in Cryers.

The runner-up prize was for a meal for two in The Green Door.

Over the last couple of months, Cryers have donated over £500’s worth of meat to Feeding Rochdale Homeless.

Littleborough Lion Zoe Attwood, who helped distribute the donation, said: “I was asked to be involved in distributing it because originally Graham Sherwin of The Green Door won a world cup meat hamper from Cryers but wasn't able to use it in the restaurant.

“This first donation was distributed to local families in need. Since then there has been numerous meat donations from Cryers which I have distributed to Feeding Rochdale Homeless at Champness.

“Graham has additionally topped up the donations with dozens and dozens of eggs and many loaves of bread.”

Feeding Rochdale Homeless hold a service on a Sunday afternoon with many volunteers cooking meals and donating what they can.

This busy service depends on donations from businesses and the work of tireless volunteers.
