Appeal after robbery at newsagents in Heywood

Police have released the image of a man they want to speak to following a robbery at a newsagents in Heywood.

Two men entered KG Ahmed newsagents on Miller Street at around 7.15pm on Saturday 25 August 2018.

After asking for a packet of cigarettes, one of the offenders grabbed the shopkeeper’s hand and shouted at him to open the till. The second offender then produced a knife from his trousers and also demanded that the till be opened. The offenders emptied the till’s contents and around 15 packets of cigarettes into a plastic bag before fleeing the shop in the direction of Starkey Street.

The shopkeeper was unharmed.

Police have released the image of man they want to speak to following the incident.

Detective Constable Christopher Shannon of GMP’s Rochdale Division said: “These offenders have subjected the shopkeeper to a terrifying ordeal.

“No-one should have to face this kind of violence and intimidation while simply doing their job.

“If you have any information on this crime or recognise the man pictured, please contact police immediately.”
