Dale supporting the Red Box Project

Date published: 13 September 2018

Rochdale AFC is supporting the Red Box Project – a campaign aimed to prevent period poverty within the local community and ensure no young women in Rochdale miss school or suffer embarrassment because they have their period.

A survey of 1,000 14 to 21-years-olds by Plan International in 2017, found that one in 10 women and girls have been unable to afford sanitary products, while 12% have had to improvise their sanitary wear.

Rochdale AFC has installed two red boxes, in the club shop and the community office, where supporters can donate sanitary products to be redistributed to schools within the local community, and supplying free sanitary products in all of our ladies’ toilets.

Red Box Project campaigner, Anna Stokes, said: “We would like to thank Rochdale Football club for their fantastic support and helping to raise the profile of tackling period poverty in our local community.

"Please get involved by simply donating sanitary products into our red boxes.”

Frances Fielding, Dale's sales and marketing manager, said:  It saddens me to see that so many young women and girls are affected by period poverty, and we hope our backing can help tackle this, and also raise awareness of the work that is being done in our local community."
