Boundary commission proposals to split Heywood and Middleton condemned by MP

Liz McInnes, Labour Member of Parliament for Heywood and Middleton
The Boundary Commission proposals to split the Heywood and Middleton constituency and remove the name of Heywood entirely from the parliamentary map has been condemned by Heywood and Middleton MP, Liz McInnes.
Ms McInnes said: “The new boundary proposals are extremely disappointing. In particular, it is not acceptable that the Heywood name will not appear in the title of any constituency; it’s a proud and historic community and doing this would deny Heywood people their identity in Parliament.
"These proposals would create unwieldy parliamentary seats crossing different local authority areas, and it is especially frustrating given that the current Heywood and Middleton and Rochdale constituencies already make perfect sense as they are in terms of population, geography, community identity and local authority areas. We don’t need to change them, and the way these proposals carve them up is quite simply incomprehensible.”
