A long-awaited cafe opened in Hopwood Park on Saturday (8 September).
Following years of fundraising and hard work, the Friends of Hopwood Park have renovated and revived an abandoned bus shelter, transforming it into The Tree House Café.
The café will be managed by the trading company of the charity ‘The Friends of Hopwood Park’, to provide an income for the park whilst offering a welcoming and friendly community hub and café providing a variety of affordable drinks and tasty food, including light bites, sweet treats and smoothies, sandwiches, toasties and paninis, plus a range of hot meals.
All revenue will be directly re-invested into Hopwood Park to further develop the facilities, security and contribute towards providing low cost family activities throughout the year.
Chairwoman of the Friends, Sandra Trickett said: “My lifetime dream of opening a café finally came true - it wasn't the most straightforward way to do it but nevertheless it's done, with the added bonus that it will benefit the community which I have grown up in.
“Since Andrew missed his mention in my speech, I thank him from the bottom of my heart for all his support along the way.”
Over the last year, in addition to the new Tree House Café, the park has seen the reopening of Hopwood Cabin, a picnic area, new paths to improve disabled access, improved lighting and drainage facilities, plus landscaping and enhancements.
