Hospital teams shortlisted four times in national HSJ Awards

Date published: 04 September 2018

Rochdale Infirmary, Salford Royal and North Manchester General hospitals have all had teams shortlisted in the national HSJ Awards.

Northern Care Alliance NHS Group, which runs the hospitals and brings together Salford Royal and The Pennine Acute Trust, has been shortlisted four times in three categories, the Improving Care with Technology category, the Acute or Specialist Services Redesign category and the Improvement in Emergency and Urgent Care category.

Salford Royal’s digital Patient Pass Renal Referral System has been recognised for its innovative approach to speeding up the referral process for renal patients.

Rochdale Infirmary and its community healthcare services have been shortlisted for two categories for its Discharge to Assess: Home in a Day Team and its Emergency Assessment and Treatment Team. The former allows patients to be assessed in their own home and the later keeps patients out of A&E by sending a team of professionals out to treat them in the community.

North Manchester General has been recognised for setting up an innovative sensory room for poorly children who find themselves in the A&E department.

The HSJ Awards are one of the largest celebrations of healthcare excellence in the world, recognising and promoting the finest achievements in the NHS, and showcasing them to the service’s most influential leaders.

Chairman of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group, Jim Potter said: “I am very proud of all of the teams that have reached the shortlist stage of this year’s HSJ Awards, I wish them well and hope each of them goes on to win an award. I think the fact that we have been shortlisted four times shows how well we are performing as a Group and confirms that we are a leading provider of healthcare excellence.”

The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony at the Intercontinental London hotel on 21 November. In order to be crowned ‘winner’ our shortlisted teams will now take part in presentations and interviews to judging panels of senior and influential figures from the sector. In total 26 winners will be announced at the awards ceremony.
