Woman trying to trace deceased father's friends

Date published: 28 August 2018

A woman from Rochdale is trying to trace friends of her father.

Nina Moore (née Bukata) is looking for her friends of her father, Serge Bukata, who moved to England with him in the 1950s from the Ukraine.

Nina was born in December 1954 and was baptised by Reverend Myroshnychenko at the Ukrainian Autocephalic Orthodox Church in Rochdale.

She said: “My father died many years ago after emigrating to the UK in the 1950s, with friends from either Poland, Ukraine or Russia - the boundaries of these countries has changed.

“My father came to Manchester with his friends. His friends went on to work/manage the Ukraine social club in Rochdale or Oldham. We used to visit it as children but only remember the first name of his friends.

“We have very limited information on him: he died when I was eleven and my mother only kept some of his papers.

“I think we may be clutching at straws but feel we have to try to find out more about him. We have photos of him with some friends in the Ukraine and were rather hoping that someone else out there must have similar photos.

“My sister and I would be very grateful if you could help in any way.”

Serge married his wife, Christina O’Farrell, on 4 September 1954 at the Manchester Registry Office and they went on to live in Old Trafford. Serge died in 1967 and was interred at Stretford Cemetery.
