Mum raises almost £300 for Home-Start

A Rochdale mum of three has raised almost £300 for Home-Start, the charity who once supported her.

Steph Crossley donated £280 to the local family support charity as a way of saying thank you for the help and support she received.

Steph raised the money by selling over 1,000 raffle tickets: prizes included hampers that she put together herself, gifts donated by other local parents and a £25 spa voucher kindly donated by The Little Day Spa on Edenfield Road.

When asked what she’d like Home-Start Rochdale to use the money for, Steph said that she’d like the charity to buy some sensory items for the children they support and the rest of the money to be used to buy emergency fresh food and toiletries for families who were in dire need.

Donna McKenna, manager of Home-Start Rochdale Borough, said: “I am overwhelmed by the time and effort spent on raising these much-needed funds, we are so grateful to Steph for coming up with the idea and to all of those who contributed towards the raffle. We know at Home-Start that family life can be so busy and stressful, but this is a perfect example of parents supporting each other during the most difficult of times. We are so grateful.”

Home-Start Rochdale works with local families in times of distress, stopping their problems from spiralling out of control, and often preventing crisis. Tailored made emotional and practical support is given by trained parent volunteers to families in their own homes.

Families receive Home-Start support for a whole range of reasons, including poverty, poor mental health, illness and disability and multiple births.
