Heywood house being investigated by Council after neighbours complain

Date published: 24 August 2018

A house in Heywood is being investigated by Rochdale Borough Council following complaints from neighbours.

Residents of Tangmere Avenue say six men are subletting rooms within a house on the street, which is rented out by Keystone.

They say the rear garden is full of dog mess, food and packaging waste, which has caused a bluebottle, maggot and rat infestation with an ‘appalling smell’ and also being used ‘as a dumping ground; for washing machines.

One resident told us: “There are young children playing either side of this house and this is causing a serious environmental issue.

“There are two scrap cars at the rear of the house, which has impacted parking for the rest of the residents and is causing a hazard for the young children who are out playing. Three cars are double-parked at the front of the property on the pavements, and this is causing access issues on the avenue and blocking the footpath.

“This is a prestigious estate and these issues need addressing immediately. The fact that neighbours to this property cannot open their windows due to the above is appalling.”

The conditions have been reported by residents to Rochdale Borough Council’s environmental health team and also raised with Keystone.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We have received a complaint relating to a number of environmental and housing issues on Tangmere Avenue and we are currently investigating under normal procedures.

“We take such allegations very seriously and won’t hesitate to take action against perpetrators wherever possible.”

Keystone did not respond to an invitation to comment.
