Students at Matthew Moss High School are again celebrating excellent GCSE results, boosted further this year by an impressive performance in Science.
Thirteen students achieved Grade 9s in Science, the new top grade which is more difficult to achieve than the old A* standard, and the average grade across all students in Science was equivalent to the old B grade.
Headteacher Mark Moorhouse said: “Results have risen for four years now at Matthew Moss and we are so proud of our learners: they work hard and thoroughly deserve their success. The gains across the school are sustaining and I am so pleased that the Science Faculty are now reaping the rewards they deserve”.
Of special note are the performances of Amani Chowdhury (6 Grade 9s, a Grade 8 and an A*), Faizah Ahmed (5 Grade 9s, a Grade 8, 2 Grade 7s and an A) and Kyle Jackson, who battled serious illness over a two-year period and yet still achieved the English, Maths, Science and Humanities results required for A-level study (a Grade 7, a Grade 6, two Grade 5s and a Grade 4).
Amani will be studying Maths, Chemistry and Biology at Rochdale Sixth Form, whilst Faizah is also thinking about studying medicine.
Saarah Ahmed wants to go into medicine, and will be studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths at Rochdale Sixth Form after gaining grades 7 through 9 in History, Maths, French English Language, English Literature and Science.
Danyal Zafar will be studying biology, chemistry and maths at Rochdale Sixth Form after gaining a 9 in History, grade 8’s in English Language, English Literature and Combined Sciences, grade 7’s in Maths and French, plus an A in DT. He hopes to study medicine eventually.
Kehinde Akinlolu will be studying Media, Art and History at Rochdale Sixth Form. Having achieved grade 7 through 9 in her subjects, she has aspirations of becoming a graphic designer.
Taiwo Akinlolu, who also passed his exams with flying colours, is going to study Media, Business and Art before studing to become a Fashion or Graphic Designer.
