Staff and students at Wardle Academy celebrate their exam results
Staff and students at Wardle Academy are celebrating their best ever exam results.
Headteacher Carole Fisher said: “I am delighted to see the improvements in so many subjects, which have led to a really strong overall performance for the academy. This is down to the hard work of students and staff and they all thoroughly deserve the excellent results.”
There have been some outstanding performances from many students at the academy including Olwen Barnes-Archer who achieved high grades in all subjects with grade 9s in biology, chemistry and physics and grade 8s in English Literature and maths. Olwen achieved this whilst also producing the twice-yearly sell-out school productions as well as numerous musical commitments and engagements.
Olwen Barnes-Archer said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Wardle Academy who helped me achieve these grades. Thank you for all the extra help and guidance you gave me leading up to my exams.”
Another of the academy’s outstanding performers was Laila Kayani who achieved excellent grades in all her subjects including four grade 9s and three grade 8s.
Laila said: “I am extremely pleased with my results and I have Wardle Academy to thank for this. I am going on to study biology, chemistry, maths and English at BRGS.”
Another student who excelled this year is Oska Read who came to the UK from Japan in 2013 after the tsunami hit his home town of Kyoto. Oska had to adjust to the British education system and has done so very successfully as he achieved four grade 8s as well as strong grades in his other subjects.
One student who had to work particularly hard to pass her exams was Sanna Ansar who has had to contend with very serious health difficulties. In Year 9 Sanna lost her sight and was registered blind and began to learn braille. Despite adversity Sanna has been successful in passing her GCSE’s.
Mrs Fisher said: “Sanna’s success is due to her fighting spirit and determination to succeed and all staff at the academy are very proud of her and all other students who have had to overcome any kind of difficulty in order to take and pass their exams.”
Year 11 student Nick Mannion said: “Wardle Academy has been amazing. They encouraged revision and gave us plenty of revision materials to help us before our exams.” Year 11 student Molly Lees said, “The staff were always very helpful and offered a lot of support in the lead up to our exams, thank you to everyone at the academy.”
Luke Garner and Wes Fielding both achieved excellent results and thanked their teachers for all they had done.
Josh Sackfield also achieved excellent results and is going to Rochdale Sixth Form College to study biology, chemistry and PE.
This year’s strong results follow a very successful Ofsted in December 2017 and Mrs Fisher said that she and all the academy staff were very proud of all students in this year group and wish them all the very best for their futures.
