High achievers at Cardinal Langley

Date published: 23 August 2018

A total of 28 Cardinal Langley students achieved the new Grade 9, which is only awarded to the highest performers.

The Headteacher, Mr Bridson, said “Our students have once again achieved some amazing results and thoroughly deserve their success.

“Staff and students have worked incredibly hard to prepare for these new qualifications and I am proud of how they have coped with the changes in the course content and style of exam.

“It is a reflection of the high standards that despite the exams being more difficult, we have seen an increase in the number of students gaining the grades to enter the Sixth Form.”

Students continued to achieve success in a wide range of subjects with 100% achieving a ‘standard’ pass in Physical Education and over 90% gaining the new benchmark in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Further high achieving subjects with over 80% achieving a ‘standard’ pass were Art, Business Studies, ICT and Textiles.

The new reformed BTEC qualifications continued to be extremely successful with a 100% pass rate at Sports Studies and 90% pass rate at Health & Social Care with 23% gaining distinctions.

This year saw the introduction of the new reformed GCSEs in the majority of subjects and we are proud that the number achieving 5 ‘standard’ passes, including English and maths, has increased despite the exams being more demanding.

All of our students have their own success stories.

Alice McNally who achieved eight Grade 9s and two Grade 8s being one of the highest achievers in the country. Alice will remain at Cardinal Langley to study A Levels in Chemistry, Biology, Maths and Further Maths. Alice said she was ‘literally amazed’ at her results, “I know I worked very hard, but I was not expecting so many Grade 9s.”
