Children and young people celebrated 71st birthday of Pakistan at Deeplish Community Centre

Date published: 22 August 2018

Children and young people celebrated the 71st birthday of Pakistan at Deeplish Community Centre on Tuesday 14 August, coming together to learn about the history of Pakistan and decorating the centre as to mark the occasion.

A presentation was delivered, informing everyone about the academic and political achievements of Mohammed Ali Jinnah, founder of Pakistan, who struggled for the country’s independence.

Mr Jinnah was the first Governor General of Pakistan in 1947, who was also the youngest qualified barrister from the United Kingdom.

Children also learnt about democracy, its values, participation and the importance of education for everyone, and enjoyed face painting, arts and crafts plus various songs in multiple languages.

Attiya Mailk, playscheme coordinator, said: “We are pleased to provide summer fun for children and keep them involved with history, arts and positive activities.

“It is good to see so many children participating at the centre; many are on our waiting list due to lack of space and facilities."

Sohail Ahmad, operations manager, said: “I am pleased to see that on this day, young people lead the activities and supported children. This is an excellent example of empowerment and education.

“We are proud to engage with children and young people, promoting cultural activities whilst reminding them of their cultural heritage.

“I would encourage parents to visit historical places and world heritage sites when they take their children to Pakistan. It will boost their knowledge, understanding and cultural understanding.”
