Date published: 22 August 2018

A man has been charged as part of an investigation into modern slavery in Rochdale.

Asad Ali (02/07/99) of Royds Street West has been charged with arranging to facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation under the Modern Slavery Act and conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

He remains in custody and appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (22 August).

In April 2018, an investigation into modern slavery and the supply of Class A drugs in Rochdale was launched.

Detectives from Rochdale Borough’s Operation Challenger team worked closely with key partners from the local authority when it was suspected that vulnerable young people were being exploited.
