They also trimmed the intruding branches of the tree obstructing the way of the pedestrians including mothers with their children in pushchairs and prams.

Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, REAG secretary, said: "It is very encouraging that new members of the community are coming forward to join the group and are bringing their children with them.

“These children are our future leaders, and this is the right time of their education to keep Rochdale cleaner and greener.

“Rochdale is a beautiful town with rich culture and history.

“Only people in Rochdale can make it more beautiful by keeping areas around their businesses, properties, roads, streets and parks."
