St Anne’s Academy vocational and A Level results

Date published: 16 August 2018

The director of Sixth Form at St Anne’s Academy has praised the school's students on results day, she said the school is "delighted with our students vocational and academic results".

Maxine Eddleston added: “Our students have worked really hard this year with the support of our staff.

Sophie Ellis gained a Distinction and a Distinction* in Health and Social Care and a Distinction in Production Art which involved all aspects of theatre work.

Sophie said: “I am going to Huddersfield University for four years to study Health and Social work, which will end with me, hopefully, gaining a Masters degree.

“I want to be a social worker eventually.

When asked why she had an interest in social work Sophie said: “I grew up in social care, I was in Bradford, but came to Rochdale and started studying at Hopwood, but I didn’t really like it so I came to St Anne’s in November, as I was a later starter, and I didn’t get the qualifications I needed to do the course I wanted, I did Production Art, which I really enjoyed, and Health and Social Care.

“But now I have my results I have decided to study to be a social worker, and I can use everything I have learnt about theatre as a hobby.

“I have loved it at St Anne’s, all the teaching staff have been great and really helpful.”

Holly Turner gained a C in Psychology, C in Sociology, and a B in Criminology.

Holly said: “I have been at St Anne’s all the way through school and I love it here.

“I want to be a Psychologist.”

When asked why she wanted to do that Holly said: “It interests me, it’s different to other jobs.

When asked about the school and Sixth Form Holly said: “I love it here, there are so many opportunities.

“I am hoping to get into Edge Hill – but I haven’t had confirmation yet.”

Maxine said: “We offer students courses and qualifications which are tailored to the needs and ability of each student to ensure that our Sixth Formers are able to fulfil their ambitions and aspirations.

“We offer a range of different pathways both academic and vocational.”

“As the way A Levels results are now delivered many of our students knew before today whether they had got into their university of choice.

“We therefore have not had as many students coming in to collect their results, which is a shame for them as there isn’t that opportunity for students to all celebrate together, or for staff to share in their achievements.”
