Jazz On A Sunday May-July 2018 Continuum

Date published: 06 August 2018

Continuing a long established pattern of fortnightly traditional jazz gigs Jazz On A Sunday began its “Summer” season way back in May when welcoming two longtime favourites in The Harlem Hot Stompers and The Tame Valley Stompers.

June - predictably as it now appears - brought the heat, courtesy of leader Barry Grumett and New Orleans Heat, then it was Fleetwood’s very own (Brighton born and raised) Mike Lovell with his eponymous Six In A Bar

Came July came more heat - and more hot jazz - this time from The Chicago Teddy Bears and from The Aire Valley Jazz Band. Storming performances both but, at the time of writing and excepting the occasional downpour, the heat goes on.

Curiously though the ‘inclement’ weather seems not to have affected attendance numbers which have remained pleasingly stable - a tribute to the consistently high standards of band that organiser Tony Sheldon has succeeded in booking and of course to the facilities afforded by the management at New Town National Club in Nixon Street, Castleton which has hosted Jazz On A Sunday for a number of years.
