Dementia Friends Awareness Session at CommuniTea Room
A 'Dementia Friends Awareness Session' was held at CommuniTea as part of the ‘Supporting People with Dementia’ project.
The session was held by Centre of Wellbeing, Training & Culture (CWTC) to help raise awareness of dementia and help attendees learn how they could support those with the condition to have a happier and more comfortable life.
Misconceptions about the condition were addressed, and attendees were asked if they would like to become a dementia friend – pledging to carry out at least one action to help raise awareness of dementia - and 79% of attendees pledged.
Yvette Nugent, a member of the public who attended the event, said: “A very interesting session thank you, would love to learn more.”
Rashida Jordan, representative from the Carer’s Hub, said: “Very good and eye-opening session, more awareness is very good for the community to help support each other.”
Participants were signposted towards appropriate services for those interested in learning more about the condition or in need of further support.
Mohammed Sarwar, Chief Executive Officer of CWTC, thanked everyone for their participation and pledged to "continue to work towards raising awareness around the condition".
