Lightning strike affecting train services in Rochdale

Due to lightning striking and damaging signalling equipment in York on Friday morning (27 July), rail services between Leeds and Manchester, taking in Rochdale, have been affected.

A spokesman for Northern said: “Customers are asked to check carefully before travelling as services are likely to be subject to further delays and cancellations – particularly as further storms are forecast into the evening.

“Anyone whose journey today has been delayed by 30 minutes or more can claim compensation via the Delay Repay scheme – details can be found on our website.”
