Phones and internet down in Kingsway after car collides with exchange box

Date published: 27 July 2018

Phonelines and the internet is down in the Kingsway area of Rochdale due to a collision between a car and a telephone exchange box.

The collision between the black Volkswagen and the green phone box on Crawford Street is believed to have occurred at around 6am on Friday (27 July).

The car has since been recovered and Virgin Media is understood to be assessing the situation.

It is not known how many individuals have been affected, but services at Venture Precision Engineering are currently down.

One employee said: “This is having a massive impact on how we can run the business. We can’t give job quotations or go about our usual practice emails. Phone calls are being diverted to a mobile phone, which is helping a little.

“This won’t be a two-minute job for the engineers: it’s so frustrating. Speed ramps need to be installed on this stretch of road as it is a very busy street and people speed on it every day.”

The incident has not been reported to Greater Manchester Police.

Virgin Media has been contacted for comment.
