The government is to address pavement parking, the Inclusive Transport Strategy published on Wednesday (25 July), reveals.
Vehicles parked irresponsibly on pavements often force people with sight loss, wheelchair users and parents with prams off the pavements out into busy roads as they are unable to pass.
Councils can already restrict pavement parking where there is a problem but the government is to carry out a wider review of pavement parking laws.
Castleton guide dog owner Frank Salt, who is an active campaigner on these issues, commented: “It is good that the government has listened to the views of blind and partially sighted people, in particular, the hazard caused by cars parking on pavements."
Eariler this year, Greater Manchester Police warned drivers their cars will be ticketed and removed if they block pavements.
