Children with autism will be supported
Children with autism will be supported locally after £600,000 being put into local schools was approved at Tuesday’s council cabinet meeting.
The meeting approved the spending of government money to create new classrooms in local mainstream schools, which will be built in four secondaries and several primary schools.
The move means children with complex needs won’t have to leave the borough to get specialist educational support.
The aim is to meet the growing demand for school placements for children with conditions on the autism spectrum, reduce the need to seek costly external school placements and reduce the number of home-schooled pupils with autism.
