Sehar Ahmed named Rochdale Young Carer of the Year 2018
A work experience placement has led a Health Care student to be awarded Rochdale Young Carer of the Year 2018.
Sehar Ahmed completed a placement at Rochdale Young Carers, a company that supports young people aged 5-18 years of age and their families who are caring for individuals who have illnesses, disabilities or mental health conditions.
During her placement, the Health Care student worked at Springhill Hospice, a purpose-built facility which offers specialist palliative care to patients and their families. During her work experience, Sehar was responsible for caring for patients, serving food and taking service users for walks.
The former Oulder Hill School and Bury College student said: “I was very happy to win. I received a trophy during a big awards ceremony at the town hall which was attended by many different health care professionals.”
She won her accolade during the Rochdale Mayor’s Youth Awards, an annual event which recognises and celebrates exceptional achievements. As well as completing her work experience, Sehar also helps to care for her brother.
In the future, Sehar would like to progress onto University to study Nursing or a job related to care and children.
Sehar added: “I have really enjoyed my course at Bury College, I have become more independent and received great support.”
