Pensioners’ prize

Date published: 23 July 2008

Rochdale Pensioners Association is celebrating after being the first organisation to receive a new award. At a ceremony at Manchester Town Hall the Lord Lieutenant of Manchester presented club Chairman Fred Schofield with the ‘Quality Standard for Funding’ certificate. The award is made to voluntary groups who demonstrate effectively managing grants from the Community Federation of Greater Manchester. Judges decided that Rochdale Pensioners Association met all the criteria, managed the process thoroughly and provided accurate reports.

The association uses grant funding to support a variety of activities including days out, meals and the costs of running the association. With over one hundred members they recently attended a conference in Blackpool and have had days out in Liverpool and Windermere.

Mr Schofield collected the award along with Vice Chairwoman Margaret Wilson and said they were all delighted: “We are absolutely over the moon, our certificate is going to be put on display at Rochdale Town Hall, we’re all very proud. I’d also like to thank the Community & Voluntary Service (CVS), who have provided us with invaluable help.”

Rochdale Pensioners Association meets at the Town Hall at 2.00 pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month. New members are always welcome. Contact Fred Schofield:
