Middleton man assaulted and stabbed

Date published: 11 December 2007

A 26-year-old man was assaulted and stabbed during an aggravated burglary at a flat in Middleton.

At 7.15am on Sunday, 9 December 2007, a gang of five to six men banged on the door of the flat at Hebers Court, Whalley Road, demanding cash and drugs from the homeowner.

The men then kicked down the door and forced their way inside the flat armed with hammers and machetes. One of the offenders was also carrying a shotgun with which he threatened the victim.

As the offenders were ransacking the flat, the victim was struck in the face and while on the floor was struck with an unknown weapon causing three puncture wounds on his left shoulder. The firearm was not discharged.

The gang then escaped with a number of items and stole the victim's silver Vauxhall Astra, registration number MT07 NFH.

The victim was taken to North Manchester General Hospital to be treated for his injuries and was later discharged.

Detective Constable Nick Price, of Rochdale CID, said: "This was a vicious attack which could have had tragic consequences for the victim. To be assaulted with a weapon in your own home is a frightening experience and the victim has been left traumatised by his ordeal.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw the silver Vauxhall Astra in the area at around the time of the incident, or who has information about this attack, to contact officers as soon as possible."

Anyone with information is asked to call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 1977 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
