St Peter’s welcomed pupils from St Mary’s, Kirkby Lonsdale

St Peter’s Church of England Primary School, Rochdale welcomed pupils and teachers from St Mary’s Church of England Primary School all the way from Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria on Thursday 14 June.

The children took St Mary’s to visit St Peter’s Church, Newbold and told them all about their church and the very special stained-glass windows designed by famous designer, Capronnier.

St Mary’s children read out the prayers - that had been written by St Peter’s - about friendship; and Reverend Steven Watkinson read a bible story, culminating in singing a hymn together as new friends.

St Mary’s returned the invite and on Wednesday 27 June, St Peter’s, Year 4 children were excited to go and visit their school in Kirby Lonsdale.

They visited the school’s partner Church, St. Mary’s in the village. There, they met Reverend Snow, who talked all about the church and explained that parts of it date back to Norman times.

In the Church, Reverend Snow also talked about the group of churches that come together in the area called the Rainbow Parish. They all listened to prayers that St. Mary’s children had written about friendship. It was a delightful partnership that both schools are excited to see flourish and grow in the years to come.

Deputy Headteacher, Mr Wood explained: “This is a wonderful link project that came about to show the similarities and differences in a very rural and urban Church of England schools. This was the second year and we are already excited about planning our next year’s visit.”
