Kirkholt site ready for new homes

Date published: 22 July 2008

The site of the former Queensway Primary School on Hartley Lane, Kirkholt has been cleared of fly tipping and made secure with new fencing in preparation for the development of high quality new homes.

Demolition contractors have cleared the site, which is part of the phase one intervention areas within the Vision for Kirkholt “Ideas for Change” Masterplan.

Margaret Wilson, local resident and Steering Group Member said: “I am happy to see the site has been secured with the new fencing and the fly tipping cleared up. Fly tipping in our neighbourhoods is a menace that can pose health risks and attract vermin. There is very little vandalism and it makes the existing Sandbrook School more secure. We are hoping it’s not too long before we can see some new buildings on this site.”

Mafooz Bibi, Assistant Area Renewal Manager, added: “A key theme of the Vision for Kirkholt is to create more mixed tenure at Kirkholt. A wider choice of housing of more varied types will lead to a more sustainable future for all sections of the Kirkholt community.”

Kirkholt Drop-in centre is the main point for any initial enquiries. They can be contacted on 01706 654125. Their opening hours are weekdays 9am-1pm with afternoon opening also between 2pm-4pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
