Heywood Memorial Gardens was the scene of a special remembrance service during the annual 1940s day on Saturday.
Dozens gathered to pay their respects, including local MP Liz McInnes, and the Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor June Hitchen.
The order of service was led by Harry Mills, Chairman of the Lancashire Veterans Association, he said: “They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old; age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”
The Last Post followed and the standards dipped before a two minutes’ silence and the Reveille.
Prayers were led by a minister before the Kohima Epitaph and National Anthem.
A blessing and wreath laying closed the service.
