Volunteers were presented with awards at Burnside Community Centre
Volunteers for a project were presented with awards at Burnside Community Centre in Middleton on Thursday (21 June).
The Mayor of Rochdale gave a speech before the awards were presented by Reverend Phillip. The volunteers for the project, ‘Take the First Step’ were surrounded by family and friends as they received their awards before enjoying lunch.
Burnside successfully bid for funding from Middleton Township to be able to deliver the project, which, like its ethos, inspires change.
The volunteers have also achieved Level 2 certificates in Food Safety - First Aid and Health and Safety and are currently training for Peer Mentoring Level 2, Volunteer Award Level 2 and ITQ Level 2 with Elite Training.
The volunteers will be delivering and supporting varied sessions at the centre using their new skills, such as Burnside ‘Time to Talk’ Café, stay and play parent and children’s session, and summer playschemes for children aged five to 12.
They will also be producing a newsletter for the local community and holding fund raising events for trips out for families.
