Recycling policy a shambles
Date published: 19 November 2007
Middleton councillor Robin Parker has slammed the Council recycling policy as a shambles, he says can recycling containers are unemptied, jammed full and overflowing. Referring to a recycling container next to Middleton Civic Hall, that was unemptied and overflowing he said: "This is not untypical. Folk who are honestly trying to help the Council meet its recycling targets are being thwarted by the Council itself.
"I know for a fact that the problem is not just restricted to this location. Because of unemptied containers, caretakers in some housing blocks are having to put bags of cans left for recycling into landfill.
"If the Liberal Democrats can’t get it right on something as simple as this, can they be surprised that Middleton folk don’t trust them on the proposed two weekly bin collections?"
Dennis Pennill, Waste Services Manager at Rochdale Borough Council, said: "We will look into this as a matter of urgency to ensure that is emptied as soon as possible. Where local residents see bins of this type overflowing, we really appreciate them letting us know using the contact telephone number shown on the bin."
