Kenyan cricket team versus Sport For All Select XI
Date published: 20 July 2008
A Sport For All (SFA) Select XI played the Kenyan Cricket team at Rochdale Cricket Club today (Sunday 20 July) as part of the Kenyan Cricket team's preparation for the 20/20 international qualifiers in August - the SFA select XI was comprised of international cricketers and players from local leagues.
The cricket match was part of a community event at Rochdale Cricket Club where as well as the match, visitors enjoyed a variety of activities including bouncy castles, face and henna painting, etc. with lots to see and do and eat and drink.
The event attracted local councillors, Mohamed Shariff, Ibrar Kahn and Farooq Ahmed along with Labour Party Parliamentary Candidate Simon Danzuk.
Hanief Mohamed, of organisers Sports For All, and Surinder Biant both told Rochdale Online they were pleased with the excellent turn out, with people travelling from throughout Rochdale Borough and also much further afield, indeed the only frustration was the car park being full and cars having to be turned away!
The weather was kind, the torrential rain of the past few days held off and there was even the odd spell of sunshine.
Kenya batted first and set a target of 166 for the SFA select XI to chase, hitting a few superb boundaries including a number of sixes.
The SFA XI got off to an inauspicious start losing two wickets within the first few overs, however, the nerves settled and they put up a credible show against the international team from Kenya, though they were not able to overhaul the Kenyan total, the Kenyans prevailing by fifteen runs.
Today's game followed a reception for the Kenyan Cricket team last night (Saturday 19 July) at Rochdale Town Hall hosted by Sport For All, the Kenya Cricket Association and Friends for Kenya.
