Council Leader, Councillor Alan Taylor
The leader of Rochdale Council, Councillor Alan Taylor, has been taken into hospital after suffering a shortness of breath and heart trouble.
He is to stay at Fairfield Hospital in Bury overnight tonight (Tuesday 15 July). Councillor Taylor has been aware of his health problems for a couple of weeks and he has recently been working more closely with Deputy Leader, Councillor Irene Davidson, while he has been unwell.
Nurses at Fairfield have monitored his condition closely after he was taken into hospital this morning and he is currently linked to a heart monitor.
As acting leader of the Council, Councillor Davidson said: "We are a very close team and I'm genuinely concerned.
"True to form his wife came to the Town Hall this afternoon to pick up some papers so he has something to read!
"I'd like to wish him a rapid recovery and hope that he is quickly back with us because he works so hard on behalf of Rochdale Council."
