Date published: 21 March 2018

A man was shot in the leg on Pleasant Street in Heywood at around 7:05pm on Wednesday evening (21 March).

Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

There remains a large police presence at the scene as officers carry out enquiries.

Superintendent Dave Pester of Greater Manchester Police said: “Understandably this incident is going to cause some alarm to local people however I want to assure them that we are doing all we can to find the person responsible.

“We remain in the very early stages of the investigation and there are a number of enquiries being carried out by detectives as we speak but I would ask that anybody with information about this incident please contact police immediately.

“There is likely to continue to be a large police presence for some time as officers work at the scene and I would encourage anybody who has concerns to approach one of these officers and speak to them.”

Anybody with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 1845 of 21/03/18, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
