Young circus performers take to Manchester

Date published: 14 July 2008

Members of Rochdale’s Skylight Circus Arts showed off their skills at the Birchfields Park Summer Festival in Manchester on Saturday (12 July).

The Skylight youngsters didn’t let the bad weather affect their performance and spectators were treated to a range of acrobatic and juggling performances.

Throughout the afternoon the performers showed off their trapeze and cocoon skills, while others showed off their hand-eye co-ordination with staff, diabolo and a mix of ball and club juggling.

When Skylight were not performing they hosted a ‘Have a Go’ workshop, teaching people how to use some of the circus equipment, or in one case, watch a policeman learning to ride a unicycle!

A large crowd gathered by the time Skylight held their second act, with the performers having had chance to warm and the weather improving.

To attract attention, Skylight sent out some walk around performers, such as Charma Force and Simon Hills who went into the area to do some stilt walking and Tom Butterworth who did some juggling.

Lindzi Miller, Creative Director of Skylight Circus Arts said: “It was brilliant. We were so proud that the group has become really solid.”
