Danczuk uses Labour fundraiser to raise Rochdale issues

Date published: 11 July 2008

Simon Danczuk, Rochdale’s Labour Parliamentary Candidate, attended Labour’s high profile Sports Dinner at Wembley Stadium yesterday (Thursday 10th July). He was amongst hundreds of guests who were celebrating the future of sport in the UK and raising money for Labour Party campaigning.

Mr Danczuk said: “The evening was very enjoyable, we were entertained by Beverley Knight and the Bee Gees, we had a tour of Wembley Stadium and there was an auction where you could bid for prizes including dinner with Alex Ferguson or playing tennis with Tony Blair – neither of which I bid for!”

Simon continued: “For me there was actually a serious point to attending the event. It gave me a chance to discuss policy with Government Ministers and press upon them what is happening in Rochdale and what changes need to take place. I had dinner with Stephen Carter, Gordon Brown’s Chief of Staff, and also had chance to chat with Ed Balls the Minister for Children, Schools and Families and Caroline Flint, the Housing Minister. Housing and education are two critical issues in Rochdale and people can rest assured I made my views on what improvements are required plain and clear.”
