The Cadets were put through their paces to ensure that the training, safety and welfare of the cadets is of a high standard and that the upkeep of the unit building is maintained.
The inspection was carried out by Lieutenant Colonel Steven Wotherspoon, Royal Marines Area Officer, and he was accompanied by other district officers.
OIC (Officer in Charge) Petty Officer Viv Buckett said: “The Area Staff complimented the Cadets and Staff on their dress, drill and bearing, and informed visitors that the Unit was a credit to the community, fullfilling the sea cadets ethos of having serious fun.”
The Cadets performed evolutions of some of the subjects that they cover, including seamanship and expedition training, and the visitors and friends were encouraged to join in.
Many members of the RNA (Royal Naval Association) were present for the evening, some of whom had been sea cadets at the unit shortly after it was opened in 1942. The residents association community police and the British legion joined the Cadets family and friends for the evening.
Towards the end of the evening, a certificate of affiliation to the Royal British Legion was presented by Wing Commander, David Forbes, representing the British Legion.
Petty Officer Buckett continued: “Overall the evening proved to be very successful for the Cadets, and next year should hopefully be no different.”
