On Your Marks, Get Set, Cook!

Date published: 10 July 2008

Fancy putting your culinary skills to the test? Do you reckon you can rustle up an exemplary healthy dish in under 30 minutes with the help of a professional chef and have it judged by an unforgiving audience? Well, this is your opportunity to be in with a chance of competing in the ultimate Feel Good event showdown that is On Your Marks, Get Set, Cook!

Ready Steady Cook’s Lesley Waters is looking for people from across the borough to submit their favourite healthy ingredients – where two chosen entrants will use these to create inventive dishes live on stage at the Feel Good event on The Butts, Rochdale, Saturday 26 July 2008 (11.00am).

The deadline to get your entries to Rochdale Town Centre Management is Saturday 19 July 2008 at 5.00pm.

The winner of this competition will get to cook alongside Lesley Waters in her team, and the runner-up will battle it out with head chef Darren Marshall from the Beluga Restaurant at the Broadfield Hotel in Rochdale. The competition will be hosted by BBC Fusion chef Aazam Ahmad.

With the fate of both teams firmly in the hands of the adjudicating audience, the entrant from the winning team will be crowned the On Your Marks, Get Set, Cook! 2008 winner. What’s more, they will also win a night’s stay for two in the luxury four-poster suite at the Broadfield Hotel with full English breakfast, plus enjoy a 7-course gourmet meal in the Beluga Restaurant. The runner up will also receive a 7-course gourmet meal for two with a complimentary bottle of wine at the Beluga Restaurant.

Ms Waters says: “This is a fantastic opportunity for keen chefs to put their cooking skills in the spotlight and show the audience what they can rustle up in under 30 minutes using nothing but healthy ingredients.

“Whether it’s Indian, Italian, English or whatever, I’ll be looking for unique ingredients that will not only whet my appetite but will tick the healthy eating box too! I wish everyone entering the very best of luck.”

Rules for entering the On Your Marks, Get Set, Cook! competition are as follows:

The total cost of ingredients must be no more than £10 from any supermarket or convenience store. The winning ingredients will be selected by Lesley Waters and be purchased by Rochdale Town Centre Management from the Co-operative – a sponsor of the Feel Good festival 2008.

Entries from two individuals who reside in the Heywood, Middleton, Pennines and Rochdale townships will be selected by Lesley Waters to be cooked live on stage by the successful entrants, with the assistance of Lesley Waters and Darren Marshall, at the Feel Good event, Rochdale, on Saturday 26 July 2008.

All entrants must ensure they are available on Saturday 26 July 2008 and be willing to prepare and cook their submitted ingredients under the supervision of Lesley Waters and Darren Marshall. Both teams will be asked to stop cooking 30 minutes after the start. Team recipes will be judged by the adjudicating audience.

Ingredients must be submitted to Rochdale Town Centre Management no later than 5.00pm on Saturday 19th July. All entries will then be passed directly to Lesley Waters for deliberation. Entries can be submitted by:
