Date published: 05 February 2018

BTEC business students  at Rochdale Sixth Form spent the day with one of the UK's leading cloud, managed hosting and colocation providers.

As part of their BTEC business course, the year 13 students are looking at HR policies and how businesses have policies and procedures in place specifically to retain, recruit and motivate their employees. They are also studying the importance of pensions and bonus schemes.

UKFast was voted as one of the best places to work in the UK so it was the ideal business for the Rochdale students to find out what makes UKFast such a good place to work.

They were given a tour of the UKFast building on Princess Parkway in Manchester, and then were set a challenge to explore their futures and discuss how to take positive action in their lives.

The students were said they were impressed with working life at UKFast and by the onsite gym, pool tables, gaming machines and the bring your dog to work policy.

Jenna Kavanagh said: “I would like to say thank you to UKFast for inviting us to visit their business. It was such a fantastic opportunity to gain a real life experience into how a successful business is run.”

Courtney Holt said: “Having a fun and enjoyable working environment can be beneficial for both the employer and employee and I would love to be able to work in a place just as motivating and positive as UKFast one day.”

Bryn Jones, business studies teacher, said: “It was extremely beneficial for the students to visit UKFast and see how an award-winning business motivates its employees.

"Staff at UKFast were incredibly impressed with the enthusiasm and energy demonstrated by our students and they were excellent representatives for the college.

"The information that they gained will be invaluable to them when completing their assignment."
