Councillor Allen Brett is the new leader of Rochdale Borough Council.
At a Labour Group meeting on Monday evening (11 December), Councillor Brett polled more votes than Councillor Jacqui Beswick, a majority of 17, to become leader of the Labour Group, and hence Rochdale Council.
The contest came about due to the surprise resignation of Councillor Richard Farnell as Council Leader last Friday (8 December).
