Burglar twice preys on the same pensioner
Date published: 07 July 2008
A woman has twice stolen from a 92-year-old man after tricking her way into his home on Entwisle Road.
The second burglary took place sometime between 9am and 10am on Friday (4 July). The woman called at the pensioner's house and told him she wanted to speak to him. Once inside she stole some cash and bankcards.
On 30 June last month the woman called at the victim's house claiming to be a neighbour and asked to come in. Once inside she distracted him and stole some cash from his wallet.
The woman is described as white, in her late 20s or early 30s, between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in tall, of stocky build and with a barrel stomach. She has dirty blonde coloured hair tied up at the back, discoloured uneven teeth and speaks with a Rochdale accent.
In first incident she was wearing a beige jacket and dark grey track suit bottoms. She was wearing a long skirt in the second incident.
Detective Constable Nick Price of Rochdale CID said: "This woman is completely unscrupulous and has taken full advantage of a vulnerable pensioner.
"She has abused this man's kind nature to steal from him on two occasions and I am determined to catch this woman.
"I would appeal to anyone who may recognise the description of the offender, or who may have seen her in the area over the last week to call police.
"I would also appeal to other residents in the area to be vigilant and cautious about who you let into your home. Do not let anyone in unless they have confirmed who they are. If they are in any doubt refuse them access and contact police.
"It is not just the potential victims we need to appeal to but to the whole community. It's important that you look out for each other and listen to the safety messages we give out. You are our eyes and ears, and we need your help."
Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4644 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
