Girl raped twice in street attack
Date published: 05 July 2008
A 17-year-old girl was raped twice after being dragged into bushes in Rochdale by three men in what police say was a "horrendous" attack.
The teenager was walking home from a night out when she was attacked in the early hours of the morning near the Lidl supermarket in Spotland Road.
Detectives say she was held down while two of the men sexually assaulted her.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the area as there are no descriptions of the offenders at this stage.
Officers are appealing for anyone with information about the attack, which happened shortly after 2.30am, to contact them.
Det Insp Steve Earnshaw, of Rochdale CID, said: "This was a horrendous attack.
"I'd like to reassure people we're doing all we can to find who's responsible for this serious sexual assault.
"However, it is advisable for women to take precautions for their own safety, such as not walking out by themselves late at night and, if they must do, to stick to busy areas."
