Redevelopment in Castleton

Date published: 05 July 2008

Indigo Planning of Manchester, acting on behalf of Farrel Ltd, have launched a consultation exercise with neighbouring residents concerning plans to redevelop their site in Castleton. Two separate planning applications are to be submitted to RMBC in the very near future.

The first application proposes the part demolition of their property, relocation of some site services, new access and new car parking off Queensway.

The second application proposes the redevelopment of the vacant land at the rear of the factory site for housing. Outline plans delivered to local residents suggest that up to 128 new houses are proposed.

In their letter to local residents Indigo state that “the application will regenerate a brownfield site, visually enhance the appearance of the area and provide high quality family housing with private gardens and open space.”

Access to the new housing area would be via Hillcrest Road and Newchurch Street. The plans do not affect Castleton Primary School whose playing fields are immediately adjacent to the site.

Initial reaction from local residents is favourable, with expressions of satisfaction that the company are involving the local community at this very early stage of the planning process.
