Police have released CCTV footage after a man threatened two women with a knife before making off with cash in a robbery at a store on Edenfield Road.

At around 2.15pm on Tuesday (1 July), the man, who covered his face, went into the Denehurst Stores shop on Edenfield Road.

He threatened a member of staff and another woman with a kitchen knife and demanded cash from the till. One of the women confronted him as he was taking the money. He left the store through the front door.

The man is described as white, 5ft 10in tall, of stocky build and in his 20s, with short, mousey blonde hair. He was wearing a green and grey horizontally striped top, dark jeans and white trainers.

A man matching this description was seen standing on Willbutts Lane, near the shop, for a period of time before the incident.

Detective Constable Ben Harris of Rochdale CID said: "Though no one was injured in this incident, the victims were left badly shaken, and this violent opportunist needs to answer for his actions.

"Perhaps people saw a man in a striped top walking down Edenfield Road or loitering on Wilbutts Lane in the early afternoon, and I would appeal to them, or anyone else with any information, to get in touch.

"One of the victims bravely confronted the offender after her safety was threatened, but it is important to remind people not to take unnecessary risks or put themselves in danger to tackle criminals."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4646, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
