Increases in charges in some council-owned car parks in Rochdale and Middleton will come into effect on Saturday (26 August).
The increases, which were agreed by the council’s cabinet in June, will affect car parks in Rochdale and Middleton town centres.
Three hours free parking will remain in place in the affected car parks.
There is currently no charge for parking in Heywood and its car parks are not affected by this proposal.
The new charges will be:
0-3 hours – free
3-4 hours - £1.00
4-5 hours - £1.30
5-6 hours - £1.60
Over 6 hours - £5
Mark Widdup, director of neighbourhoods at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “These changes put us in line with most private car parks and will make it easier for visitors to find a space in our car parks.
“Motorists should be aware that tickets now need to be displayed in all car parks in the affected area, so I would advise visitors to always check the tariff boards.”
The proposed charges for the three car parks at Hollingworth Lake: Hollingworth Lake Country car park, Lake Bank car park and the Hollingworth Road car park are currently out to consultation. The closing date for public responses is 13 September.
Current charges
• 0-2 hours £0.90

• 4-6 hours £2.20
• Over 6 hours £2.20
Proposed charges
• 0-2 hours £1.00
• 2-4 hours £2.00
• 4-6 hours £3.00
• Over 4 hours £5.00
