Casualty taken to hospital and road closed following collision on St Mary's Gate

Date published: 12 July 2017

A casualty has been taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital following a collision involving a white Vauxhall and a blue Mercedes and a traffic light at the junction of Hunter’s Lane and St Mary’s Gate.

The extent of the person's injuries are unknown but a North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said ‘it doesn’t look like major trauma’. A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue spokesperson confirmed the casualty was released from a car using cutting equipment.

Four fire engines and two ambulances are on the scene with police.

Part of St Mary’s Gate is currently closed (2pm Wednesday 12 July).

Cordons are currently in place around the junction with no access onto Hunter’s Lane from St Mary’s Gate. Traffic flow down St Mary’s Gate is being redirected up Spotland Road or to turn around back towards Town Head lights. Traffic on the opposite side of the road is unaffected.

The Exchange car park is still in use with traffic controls in place by staff.

Expect delays as traffic is building up across the town.
