East and westbound carriageways of the M62 (between junctions 22 and 24) will be closed on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 July from 9pm to 6am

As part of the work to reinforce the local power network and provide a continued reliable electricity supply for years to come, Northern Powergrid will replace 33,000 volt overhead power lines which cross the M62 motorway. Customers’ electricity supplies are not expected to be disrupted as a result of the work.

To enable Northern Powergrid and its contractors to safely carry out the investment work, the east and westbound carriageways of the M62 (between junctions 22 and 24) will be closed on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 July 2017 from 9pm to 6am.

Northern Powergrid worked closely with the Highways Agency to agree timings for the necessary closure and required diversion. In addition the electricity distributor consulted with both Calderdale Council and Kirklees Council regarding the proposed diversion route to help minimise disruption, wherever possible, to local communities. Diversion signs will remain in place throughout the work.

Carl Bandeira, Northern Powergrid’s project manager, said: “This work is the final stage of a wider £1.8 million investment project to improve the local power network.

“We have worked with a number of partners to ensure the road closure, necessary for safe working, is kept to a minimum. We’d like to reassure motorists that we will be working to complete the project as soon as possible and if we’re able to reopen the road sooner we will.

“We do understand that work like this can cause some disruption but it is the final part of a key investment to improve the quality and resilience of the local power network. We’d like to reassure people that we’re doing everything possible to minimise the impact for local people and motorists.”

As part of the project Northern Powergrid has already completed the replacement of more than 8 kilometres of overhead network between Lindley and Slaithwaite.
