Date published: 08 July 2017

Anthony Reilly, 54, has been cleared of killing James Feeney following an altercation at The Reed Hotel in Rochdale centre in May 2016.

Police were called by the ambulance service at around 8.20pm on Sunday 1 May 2016 to Reed Hill in Rochdale Town Centre to reports that 65-year-old James Feeney was unconscious and not breathing after being assaulted.

He died a short time later.

After appearing at Manchester Crown Court on Friday (7 July), Reilly was sentenced to three months imprisonment (suspended for 12 months) for one count of assault by beating. Earlier in the week, a jury cleared him of manslaughter.

Reilly, of Prince Street, Rochdale, must also complete 100 hours of unpaid work and pay a fixed surcharge fine of £115.
