CCTV images released after two assaults outside Ko-ko Lounge

Date published: 06 July 2017

Police have released CCTV images after two serious assaults outside a nightclub in Rochdale.

On Sunday 26 March 2017, police received reports that a man had been assaulted outside Ko-Ko Lounge on Packer Street in the early hours of that morning.

A group of friends had left the club and were waiting for a taxi when a man they did not know also left the club and approached them.

The stranger punched a 22-year-old man in the group causing him to fall to the floor before kicking him.

Another younger man then came out of the club and joined in with the attack, dragging a second victim from the group, a 21-year-old man, to the floor and beating him.

After continuing to assault the two friends, the offenders fled the scene in a taxi, heading away from the town centre down Packer Street in the direction of Nelson Street.

This incident is believed to have occurred sometime between 3am and 3.30am.

Both victims were taken to hospital with facial injuries – the 22-year-old required surgery for a fractured jaw and the 21-year-old required treatment for a fractured cheekbone.

Officers have now released CCTV images of two men they want to speak to in connection with the attack.

Detective Constable Ruth Thompson, of GMP’s Rochdale Borough, said: “This unprovoked, sustained assault has left two young men shaken, with some nasty facial injuries when they were enjoying a night out with friends.

“We’re still piecing together the circumstances of the incident but we do not believe any incidents happened inside of the club before the attack but we do believe the offenders were in the area from around 2am onwards.

“If you witnessed this attack or recognise either of the men in the CCTV images then please get in touch.”
