Families invited to Baby Memorial Service at North Manchester General Hospital
Families who have lost a baby through stillbirth or shortly after birth are being invited to a special service of remembrance at North Manchester General Hospital.
The service will be held in the post graduate education centre at the hospital on Wednesday 5 July at 7pm.
The Baby Memorial Service, which lasts for up to 45 minutes, will offer families a chance to reflect on their loss and will provide an opportunity to remember all the babies who have died.
Rev Ian Inglis, chaplaincy co-ordinator at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, said:
“The baby memorial service is open to all who wish to attend. It is a chance for anyone who has lost a child to pause, reflect and remember in a safe environment, amongst others who have experienced loss themselves.
“Music, readings and poems and a couple of prayers combine with the reading of the names of those babies that people have come to remember. For some it is a religious service, for others it is spiritual and for others, it is reflective – how people participate is up to them.
Refreshments will be served after the service.
Anyone who would like further details on the memorial service should contact Rev Inglis on 0161 720 2990.
The Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (SANDS) offers support for families who have faced stillbirth or neo-natal deaths. They can be contacted on 020 7436 5881 or online at www.uk-sands.org
